Jetha ji Sessa Festival, all you ever wanted to know

Sessa festival is observed on Jeth ji ummas or Amavasya in Jyeshta month (As per lunar calender). In olden days the male clan would often travel overseas for business purposes and the family would be worried about their safety, particularly if they happen to travel during the times when the turbulence in sea or rivers would pose a threat to the human lives. Ladies in the family would dedicate a sweet dish to each male member and would cook sesa i.e boiled kabuli chola and peela chaanwran (Turmeric laced rice). The ladies would gather at the waterbody and bring along the sesa including Puri, shallow fried potatoes, pakora, seyun (sweet sewayian) along with the respective dedicated sweet. A small prayer is recited and then the Prasad of all the food brought by ladies is mixed and distributed. In modern times when even Female clan travel overseas we pray for all the family members, irrespective of the gender!
