Story of Sangeet Acharya Master Chander - Part 2. Every Sindhi must know about the Legend of Sindhi Music. In first part we covered his struggle and fascinating journey of Music in Sindh, where he was blessed by Bhagat Kanwarram Sahib. At the age of 22 he started recording for HMV Records (His Master’s Voice) Gramophone company. He recorded his first song in 1930 which was a semi classical song, Suhina Araz Aahe. Soon after that his records became famous around the world. But then came 1947 partition where Master Chander family moved to Bombay. As many were missing Master Chander voice in Sindh. In year 1955, he received an invitation from Sindh for program there. Master Chander along with his elder son Gope Chander visited Sindh and did 3 month tour and performed in many cities and villages. He also recorded 20 songs with HMV during this tour. Master Chander recorded more than 400 songs with HMV company for which he was awarded with a Gold Medal. Complete list of these 400 songs can be found on a sindhi wiki page. Master Chander was not only a Singer, but a great Poet, Writer & Music Composer. He could effortlessly do comedy, screenplay in his shows. He performed in Bollywood / Hindi Cinema Films. Because of his multiple talents he is known as Kala Jo Kohinoor. Master Chander Sahib left us on 3-Nov-1984, but artists like Master Chander live forever (Sadahayat) in the hearts of the fans. Towhan sabhni khey Sindhi dinha TIRAMURI joon beshumaar Wadhayoon. ===== Source: @sindhirasoiofficial Tirr Moori is the Makar Sankrant of Sindhis and most of the Sindhis observe it by eating Saibhaji, Tayri (sweet rice) or Methi pulav, Moori (Radish), Borinda (Til ladoo), revryun (Revri) . Makar Sankrant marks the end of harvest season and begining of Spring. The Uttarayana I.e the movement of Sun from South to North means the days will now be longer and warmer. Sankrant means the movement of the Sun from one Zodiac sign to another and on Makar Sankrant the Sun moves from Dhanu Rashi (Sagittarius) to Makar Rashi (Capricorn) and marks the begining of festivals (i.e auspicious period). Since the harvest of crops is completed before Lohri (generally celebrated a day ahead of Makar Sankrant) hence farmers celebrate the occasion in various ways (Lal loi/ Lohri, Makar Sankrant/ Pongal). The idea is to offer gratitude to Mother Nature for being kind and generous. As a mark of respect for Panchtatva (5 elements) Hindus worship the five elements in various ways during this time by flying kites (Aakash, vayu), taking a dip in rivers (Jal), offering grains or harvest to the bonfire on Lohri (Agni) and thanking the mother Earth (Prithvi) for the harvest. And since Sun plays a major role when it comes to life on Earth, people worship Sun God too on this day. It is supposed to be very auspicious to bathe in holy rivers on this day and to donate anything or share whatever you can, with needy people. I am not sure how many Sindhi families follow this ritual where each family member do take out a portion of each; rice, whole Moong, cooking oil and Borinda (til ladoo) along with carrots and Radish, before eating anything in the morning of Tirr- moori i.e MakarSankrant, and share it with less privileged.
